Confirmation

Confirmation
Program Intent and Format.   Confirmation in the Lutheran Church is a public profession of faith prepared for by long and careful instruction. It is called "affirmation of baptism", and is a mature and public profession of the faith which "marks the completion of the congregation's program of confirmation ministry". The program at St. John’s Lutheran Church is a three-year program and will include three basic components of which instruction is primary and paramount. Key historical events in the Old Testament, the “good news” in the New Testament, and Luther’s Small Catechism will be taught. Service as well as building and strengthening life-long Christian relationships are the other two components of the program. An introduction to (or review of) the Bible will also be available to youth who are in need of this instruction.

Service and Socials. As noted in the “Program Intent and Format”, part of the Confirmation experience will include service to others and building and strengthening life-long Christian relationships. Throughout the year, opportunities to participate in social activities, service projects, and service to the church will be announced. Confirmation students are expected to participate.   Parents are encouraged to volunteer for these activities.
